Traditional Irish Aran Jumpers
Featuring in all their Aran jumpers and sweaters is the traditional Irish Aran Stitches. This stitch styling is believed to bring luck, success and health to the wearer. Each jumper, whether for men, women or children, has been manufacturered to the highest standards. Only the finest of materials are used including merino wool, pure new wool, linen/cotton, cashmere and Donegal wool (known for its fleck in the wool) resulting in a quality item.
Why are Aran Craft Jumpers so popular?
The best words to describe an Aran jumper are comfortable, cosy, warm, stylish, quality, authentic and woollen. Also known as a fisherman's sweater, they originated in the Ireland many years ago. They are traditionally produced using the natural sheep's wool in an off-white (i.e. without any colour dyes) with the natural sheep lanolin (wool wax) left on the wool making them water resistant and perfect for the Irish weather. Today, the Aran Craft jumpers have become a global symbol and worn by many celebrities.
To spot a traditional Aran jumper, you will need to look for a 4-6 textured pattern, usually 5-10cms in width, that moves down the jumper in columns. This is the most popular fisherman's jumper across the world!
