With so much publicity about the shooting industry and with so many regulations and codes of practice that need to be followed, it’s often useful to just make sense of it all!
In order to protect both you and the animals, we have put together a list of reliable and useful links related to various organisations or associations that can provide useful advice and guidance on ‘best practice’. Whether it be game shooting, deer stalking, wild boar hunting or any other form of shooting, the list below will guide you in the right direction.
Key Organisations and Associations
The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC)
Formed in 1908, BASC was originally set up as the “Wildfowlers’ Association of Great Britain and Ireland” with the specific aim of serving as a representative body for all shooting sports. Nowadays, the main aims of BASC are to ensure that shooting sports are safe for all concerned and that all relevant legislation is adhered to. BASC provides a vast amount of information for a range of shooting sports and it is highly recognised within the industry for being up to date and accurate with the advice and guidance that it offers.
BASC also boasts a conservation team which helps to promote a sustainable future for responsible shooting. The conservation team provides advice on the best ways to maintain the land and manage species. It also works towards building links with government agencies and other appropriate conservation organisations.
The overall aim of the Countryside Alliance is to represent the interests of people living or operating within the countryside. The organisation works towards the management and protection of wildlife and reports on key issues within the industry. Recent campaigns have included the ‘Game to Eat’ campaign which has been designed to increase interest in game meat, whilst encouraging more young people to become actively involved in the industry.
Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust
The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust is an organisation that has charitable status. It’s aim is to protect and promote game and wildlife management, whilst encouraging nature conservation. This trust provides detailed information on Fishing, Farming, Game and Wildlife.
